The Intercultural Achievement Award (IAA) was first created in 2014 by the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to honor successful and innovative projects in the field of intercultural dialogue specifically within education, youth, media, migration, and integration. A special focus is put on the cross-cutting themes of youth and women. It was initiated by the task force “Dialogue of Culture” of the Federal Ministry for Europe in cooperation with the Austrian Representation Offices Abroad. The award showcases innovative projects that promote a dialogue in cultures and religions, have mastered a specific intercultural challenge, or explored a new avenue in intercultural dialogue. After scrutinizing the applications from thirty different countries, a jury of experts chose three main winners, a special prize for the category integration as well as three commendations. The first prize was awarded to the interethnic kindergarten Sunani Most in Mostar (Bosnia and Herzegovina), the second to the China Women’s Film Festival and the third award to the “Girls Education Equity Project” in Nairobi (Kenya).
